Hangover hall

The next morning was also a rather jolly occasion as winners of RIBA Awards resumed their places (or at least some of them) in the self-same Florence Hall for a late breakfast and Buck's Fizz.Marco Goldschmied introduced the awards, announced to coincide with Architecture Week, and looked pretty fit for a man who had risen at the crack of dawn to do a morning television item on Architecture Week on Channel 5.

A cheery occasion since all the architects present had won something. Roger Stephenson looked urbane (and what a thoroughly deserved OBE he was awarded last week). Ian Davidson, awards chairman, was suitably relaxed with one big task out of the way. No doubt news of the AJ sponsorship of the Stirling Prize helped. Others looked a little under the weather, but we managed to get through substantial portions of kedgeree balls, bacon and sausage kebabs, mushrooms on ciabatta and other tasty morsels. How different from the old sixth-floor canteen.
