Guest Street Housing by De Metz Forbes Knight Architects

  • Comment
Guest Street, New Islington, Manchester

The Guest Street houses are a contemporary interpretation of the 19th Century terrace, a hybrid of a traditional terrace and a modern courtyard house. They are triple aspect with small private courtyards and large windows. The mix of single- and two-storey units also reflects the specific requirement of current residents, with whom the scheme was designed. Three different ‘Lifetime Homes’ types have been created, achieving Eco Homes ‘excellent’ ratings and incorporating innovative CHP units and sedum roofs.

Guest Street housing derives from careful interpretation of a very detailed consultation programme, resulting in a lively and robust housing scheme that has been embraced by the community who live there and which sets the standard for similar housing projects.
