Grimshaw's Paddington over-site scheme submitted for planning

Crossrail has applied for planning for a Grimshaw-designed retail and office over-site development at Paddington Station in west London

The 30,000m² proposals comprise 15 storeys of office space with retail and office space at canal level.

The scheme is located at the junction of Bishop’s Bridge Road and the Grand Union Canal. It will incorporate access to Crossrail, National Rail and London Underground Hammersmith & City line services.

The planning application submitted to Westminster City Council also features urban realm improvements as well as a public lift and staircase from the canal towpath to Bishop’s Bridge Road.

Crossrail land and property director Ian Lindsay said: ‘This major new commercial development will play an important role in the continued transformation of Paddington.

‘Crossrail is the first UK rail project to deliver an integrated package of new and improved rail infrastructure alongside high-quality over-site development and public realm improvements which will boost urban regeneration.

‘This development will signal the completion of a further phase in the renaissance of Paddington as a major commercial location.’

When Crossrail opens in 2018, up to 24 trains per hour will operate at peak times between Paddington and Whitechapel.
