Graphic image was vulgar and unnecessary

  • Comment

I am writing to comment, or perhaps more correctly to complain, about this article in its tasteless and quite unpleasant use of a wholly irrelevant illustration.

The article discusses three new publications, none of which relate to the illustration. The use of the latter, with its overt sexual images and language, is gratuitous in the extreme, and indeed quite uncharacteristic of your publication.

Perhaps some one could explain to me if there is some symbolic relevance, but otherwise I would hope that you would apologise, not only to me but to your many other readers who, I suspect, have been seriously offended by this unnecessary vulgarity.
