G.Park Blue Planet, Staffordshire by Chetwoods Architects

[FIRST LOOK] This Chetwoods design is the first ever project to receive a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ (Design Stage) rating

The warehouse and office accommodation in Newcastle-Under-Lyme has been dubbed ‘one of the greenest distribution buildings in the world’ by the Leading European Architects Forum.

The building is designed to minimise its affect on its surroundings: over half the site is landscaped and the cladding is made from graduated green composite panels. The warehouse is covered by a vast low-pitched roof from which water drains directly into ponds on the 52-acre landscaped site.

The building is powered by a variety of renewable power sources including solar technology on the warehouse roof and kinetic plates in the road which generate power as vehicles drive over them. The site generates enough power to support the park and will also export heat and power to the neighbouring residential development.

Laurie Chetwood, founder of Chetwoods Architects, said ‘G.Park Blue Planet really gives something back to both the environment and community. The project provides a truly sustainable solution for this commercially sensitive building type. Our design addresses all areas of  sustainability, including the social and community aspects, and incorporates  the latest environmental techniques and technologies.’
