Iwant to be a . . . town planner' runs the career advice column in The Times appointments section. 'Am I the right type?' says the ad. 'Would you have willingly climbed into the tumbrel during the French Revolution?' comes the reply. This 'small' profession is nevertheless described as 'popular'. This will be news to the rtpi's 17,000 members, who are popular only in the traffic warden sense.
