Learned journals are not necessarily examples of high-quality design, but that is not true of arq, the architectural research quarterly, edited by former AJ editor and Cambridge architecture head Peter Carolin.

The journal has just won the Charlesworth Award for Learned Journals for its strong sense of space, exceptional typography and clear graphics. Something for the chemists to aspire to.
