Brighton's West Pier is not the only old structure about to undergo substantial renovation. I hear plans are afoot for a major upgrade of Brighton Marina, the project by Louis de Soissons Partnership on which Eva Jiricna and Jan Kaplicky worked after they came to England in 1968 following the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia. Now landscape architect Derek Lovejoy Partnership is masterplanning the rethink, and following interviews with a host of architects it looks as though Piers Gough and Michael Hopkins have got the gig. No doubt the newly relaxed gambling laws will play a part in funding the project.
