RIBA president Marco Goldschmied is lining up pop bands Faithless or Groove Armada to play at a swanky party he is throwing at Portland Place on June 22 for all architects who have passed their Part III examinations during his reign.
Goldschmied is to take over the HQ building with a bash for students who passed in the period July 1999 to June 2001. And he hopes it will become a biannual, sponsored affair. 'I'm doing this because I think they ought to know that the institute is changing, is relevant to them and is looking to the future, ' he said.
He has asked Clients Advisory Service director Paul Newman to look into hiring bands to play alongside architect DJs 'Darren and Dave' and a series of architectonic films like the Fountainhead, which will be shown on plasma screens.
Some 600 tickets for the Midsummer Party, funded by the Goldschmied Foundation and £5,000 from the institute, are available on a first come, first served basis at www.riba.org/party
