[SMALL PROJECTS 2011] A house designed for a developer for rent
The site was previously occupied by a row of three garages, measuring 4.4 x 8 metres. Planning was eventually achieved in October 2005 after lengthy negotiations.
The 75m² internal area is divided over three floors achieved with a split level plan; a half-basement allows the top floor to be less than 4.5 meters permitting a plan without a fully enclosed stair. A very small house on a very tight site feels as a consequence spacious and light.
Construction is simple and inexpensive; reinforced block basement walls, concrete block walls and joisted floors and roof. Insulation is external behind a rainscreen of cement fibre panels in red and white - the Arsenal colours. The roof is zinc standing seam. Internally the house is painted plaster with oak floors and staircase.
