For breathtaking impertinence, it is hard to beat the story, briefly reported (Astragal, aj 30.4.98), about a bay window in the London Borough of Barnet. No less a figure than James Dunnett, avenging angel of the Twentieth Century Society, actually had to modify his designs for a (wait for it) bay window in that borough. And the so-called 'Suburb Trust' joined in too. Admittedly it was in Hampstead Garden Suburb, but how precious can you get? Astragal noted the immaculately designed cat-flap incorporated into the new arrangement. Let us hope there was full design consultation on this important matter.
