Fraser Brown MacKenna completes Hackney affordable housing

  • Comment

[FIRST LOOK + PLANS + DATA] Fraser Brown MacKenna have unlocked a former industrial site to create 62 affordable homes in Hackney

Built on a landlocked site enclosed by housing, the 62 affordable homes for the One Housing Group are arranged around two internal courtyards.

The larger courtyard, Hazlitt Court, is accessed through a dark grey brick ‘gatehouse’ on Northwold Road, which completes an existing terrace, with the smaller Saxony Court accessed from Geldeston Road.

Soft landscaping including trees, shrubs and climbing plants is designed to create a ‘green oasis’ and a natural buffer to the surrounding gardens, within each of the courtyards.

The development also includes an 18 bedroom care and support facility for residents with mild learning disabilities, named Salvesen House, which is located along Narford Road.

The buildings, which range in height from one to four storeys, are orientated to minimise impact on the surrounding homes, with timber screens to prevent overlooking and provide solar shading.
