RIBA London has announced plans to extending the registration deadline for the London and Sheffield Forgotten Spaces ideas competition

The new registration deadline has been extended to 13 April, with final submissions required by 12 May.

RIBA London also confirmed that they have a new partner in Design for London, who join Qatari Diar and Ordnance Survey as sponsors in the capital.

Mark Brearley- Head of Design for London said: ‘This is a great project for London and we are thrilled to be a part of it. We look forward to seeing a range of ideas in particularly innovative proposals for the edge of London.’

The respective London and Sheffield Forgotten Spaces 2011 competitions are open to entrants across the country. The brief asks architects and designers to propose an imaginative new use for a ‘forgotten space’ anywhere in Greater London or the Sheffield City region.

They will be competing for cash prizes of up to £5,000, RIBA will announce competition winners and award cash prizes for both competitions in Autumn. The competition winner will receive £5,000, with second and third-place collecting £2,000 and £1,000 respectively.

The RIBA in Yorkshire is working in association with Sheffield Hallam University and the Sheffield competition is being sponsored by developers British Land, Creative Sheffield, Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and engineers Buro Happold.
