London-based Foreign Office Architects (FOA) has drawn up these concept plans for a new underground station in Paris’ outer suburbs
Drawn up for RATP, the French capital’s transport authority, the proposed Metro station has been conceived as ‘an open air theatre’ which descends like a raked auditorium directly from the street to the platform levels.
According to the practice, the prototypical scheme ‘seeks to eliminate the disorientating underground corridors via which people usually enter and exit the metro, in order to make more direct connections between the city and the [underground station]’.
The project, which has been designed with local architects Richez Associés and sustainability consultant bbc-energie, also aims to challenge the inefficient use of land around any proposed station ‘by increasingly the density of construction’.
The design was unveiled at an exhibition at the Trocadéro architecture museum last week.
