Edge debate 54: a new professionalism

This debate follows on from a debate held in 2011 entitled ‘What does it mean to be a building professional in the 21st century’. The debate led to the development of a special issue of the journal Building Research and Information on new professionalism. This debate with speakers Bill Bordass of the Usable Buildings Trust, Harry Rich from RIBA, and Will Hughes of the University of Reading, among others will examine the relationships between professionals, governments and markets.


Dissecting sustainable homes

Join the We Are Water Foundation for an evening focused on what makes a sustainable home. Richard Hawkes of Hawkes Architecture, and Oliver Schneider from The Facility will give insight into this vast topic by dissecting their recent residential projects.


James Timberlake: prototyping architecture


When: 21 February, 6.30pm

Where: The Building Centre

James Timberlake of Philadelphia-based KieranTimberlake Architects will give the keynote speech at the prototyping architecture conference. The practice which has been appointed for the new US Embassy at Nine Elms are well known for their hi-tech approach to sustainability.
