The futuristic dream of a sustainable building that generates its own electricity through solar cells in its glazing is about to become real. BP Solar and Romag have spent six long years developing PowerGlaz, a glazing material that could revolutionise the use of renewable energy in building design. PowerGlaz, which the manufacturers promise will be 'striking' in its design, as well as easy to install, comprises solar electric cells housed between glass panels, which harness energy from natural light. PowerGlaz will come in sizes up to 3.3 x 2.2m and is expected to be readily available later this year. For more information telephone 01932 764800.
