Architect-teacher Deborah Saunt is just back from Los Angeles, where she took her Cambridge students. Why LA?

To help them learn more about Luton! She picked Luton as the subject for a project about a town poised on the edge of change, where architectural intervention could have an impact. LA was a perfect example of somewhere derided by outsiders for its love affair with one particular transport system, the car. Luton, thinks Saunt, is poised for major improvement - based on air travel. She has dubbed the project Easytown, as the home of the cheap airline. Buy property there now, she advises. . .
