First pictures of DSDHA's orange box in York

London-based architects DSDHA has created this installation in York’s Exhibition Square from 1,000 orange boxes.

The ‘interactive performance venue’ also acts as a contact point for the local community to offer their views on the city’s public spaces.

The YourSpace project has been developed in collaboration with Yorkshire architecture centre Beam.

The scheme was part of larger People Changing Places project, which according to the practice, ‘explores the integration of art and cultural space into the public realm to reveal new journeys and connections feeding directly into York’s public realm strategy.’

  • In 2008 there was an RIBA Competition called 'Beam Goes Mobile'.

    What happened to that?

I hope it wasn't yet another wasted competition process.
