Birmingham City Council has granted planning permission for Trevor Horne Architects’ Beorma Quarter skyscraper
The £150 million scheme comprises three new buildings around a new public space including a 27-storey tower which ‘responds to existing Birmingham landmarks’, including the Rotunda and Selfridges, with ‘its roof line and double height sky garden’.
The mixed-use development will create 60,231m² of accommodation, much of which will be BREEAM Excellent rated offices. The refurbishment of a Grade-II listed Cold Store and the retention of locally listed facades are also part of the scheme.
According to Kuwaiti developer Salhia Investments, construction work on its first direct UK project is due to start ‘as soon as possible’.
