[FIRST LOOK + PLANS] After five years of delays a:b:i:r architects has finally landed planning permission to build 39 affordable flats in Brighton

The Hove-based practice’s proposal was submitted for planning three times, was the subject of two public enquiries and had to be significantly redesigned.

Simon Atkins of the practice said: ‘We are absolutely delighted that the Planning Inspectorate has granted permission for this scheme. It is testament to our client’s determination that this is the right site for desperately needed affordable housing and it vindicates our belief in good quality design. We hope that this decision will act as a catalyst for the regeneration of the Lewes Road area.’

The scheme features a terrace of ground floor apartments, a seven-storey apartment block tower and a four storey apartment block with an ‘industrial’ aesthetic relating to nearby commercial units and brickwork facades.
