Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios has submitted plans for this 32-storey, student-flat skyscraper scheme in Vauxhall, south London
The project at 30-60 South Lambeth Road for developer Downing will house 572 student bedrooms, a gym and 25-metre swimming pool - both of which will be open to he public.
The Vauxhall tower, which includes two roof terraces, will be Downing’s first development in London.
Ian Harrison, development manager at Downing, said: ‘Our proposals would transform an under-used site with high quality student accommodation and contribute new community leisure facilities to the local area.
We are actively seeking other sites in the capital for future projects
‘London has one of the most robust student markets in the world and there is strong demand for high quality, purpose-built accommodation.’
Downing has already worked with the practice on the ‘rusty’ 23-storey Broadcasting Place building for Leeds Metropolitan University and is eyeing up more sites to add to its student accommodation portfolio which boasts more than 6,000 beds.
Harrison added: ‘We are actively seeking other sites in the capital for future projects.’
Following consultation with Lambeth Council, CABE and the Greater London Authority, the cladding initially proposed was changed to a terracotta material, ‘to reflect the tone and texture of the buildings in the neighbouring conservation area’.
