The future of Alsop Architects' c/Plex centre hung in the balance as the AJ went to press, with the Arts Council meeting to decide whether or not to fund the project. Its decision could result in the project having to go ahead in a radically altered form, or be scrapped. The Arts Council was to contribute 46 per cent of the £45 million cost of the community arts centre, but decided to review its commitment to the project. Although Will Alsop is confident some funding will emerge, he is unclear whether the council will stump up the full amount. 'I think they want to give us the money. The question is, do they have it?' said Alsop, who added that the building could be adapted to match a lower budget.
