FCH scoops planning for 'resurrected' £45m Liverpool scheme

Falconer Chester Hall has won planning permission for this hotel, housing and commercial mixed-use proposal for the mothballed Baltic Triangle area of Liverpool city centre

The £45 million project for Neptune Developments on the problematic site (AJ 15.02.2012) features four buildings opposite King’s Waterfront and close to the Stirling Prize-shortlisted Liverpool One shopping district.

Work on the previous scheme came to a halt in April 2007 when London-based Windsor Developments went into administration - a high-profile financial collapse which contributed to the demise of original project architects Downs Variava in early 2008.

Falconer Chester Hall director Alastair Shepherd said: ‘The site is highly visible as it sits along a main route into the city and, as such, we have been careful to design a building which sits well with its neighbours whilst being a distinct addition to the Baltic Triangle area.

‘Our approach has been to marry the use of masonry, seen in nearby warehouses, with bright colours associated with Liverpool’s waterfront. The quality of the new public square is also a priority, in order to create an attractive destination for visitors and residents.’

The scheme includes a 360 space underground car park and is planned to start on site later this year.
