Farrell to oversee Holborn revamp

The London districts of Holborn, Bloomsbury and St Giles are set to be revitalised by architect and urban designer Terry Farrell

The Business Improvement District (BID) for the Midtown area has aked Farrell to draw up a framework showing how the central district - which includes 560 businesses - can be regenerated ‘to enhance commercial viability in the area’.

Farrell will work with the London Borough of Camden, the mayor and Transport for London on a ‘detailed plan for delivery’.

Farrell said: ‘I look forward to working with Midtown and its business members to set out a real and achievable framework for change in this fascinating area of London - set between Holborn Circus and St Giles Circus and centred on the historic crossroads at Holborn.

‘London must build on the existing assets, qualities and characters that make this an already successful commercial hub to ensure it becomes a world class urban quarter, complete with world class public realm.’

Farrell will spend the next nine months drawing up the ‘framework for change’ document, which will be released for consultation in spring 2011.
