Farrell sets out Thames Gateway vision

Terry Farrell has set out his Core Vision for the Thames Gateway in a bid to help shape the future strategy for the area over the next 40 years

Farrell, who is design champion for the regeneration project, said its success depends on the government’s support.

He added: ‘I believe that success on this scale must be “place-based”. Shaping the physical surroundings has the power to change people’s perceptions through new landscaping, environmental improvements and regeneration.

‘To create this growth the Thames Gateway will have to make the most of its assets, dramatically improve its quality of life and therefore transform its economic prospects.’

The Core Vision was commissioned in 2008 by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), which took on responsibility from Communities and Local Government to deliver the government’s ambitions for the Thames Gateway.

Its aim is to provide a master narrative to help communicate the initiative to partners and stakeholders and enable them to share the vision with a wider audience.

Bob Kerslake, chief executive of the HCA, said: ‘I believe this new vision communicates in a compelling and inspirational way what the Gateway is all about, what its future prospects are and why government and partners are happy to give it their support. The narrative will be very useful to help guide thinking on the future delivery strategy for the Gateway as we go forward.’

  • If it's anything like his recent efforts in Edinburgh, I wouldn't be getting too excited.
