Falconer Chester Hall succeeds where Alsop failed in Putney

[First look] Falconer Chester Hall has won planning permission for this mixed-use scheme in Putney, south London

The planning win comes three years after a previous application for a 25-storey building on the site by Will Alsop was rejected. The SMC Alsop scheme for developer Oracle Group was branded ‘overbearing’ when it was thrown out by Wandsworth Council in late 2008.

Falconer Chester Hall’s significantly shorter scheme features four buildings ranging in height from five to 11-storeys.

With 25 per cent affordable housing, the mixed-use development will also house offices, leisure space, new public realm and car parking.

Falconer Chester Hall managing director Adam Hall said: ‘This is an important commission for us. It is a major redevelopment project in South West London won against competing practices from the capital.

‘It’s a highly visible site and we have worked very closely with Wandsworth planning offices, The Putney Society, local stakeholders and the Greater London Authority to create a high quality piece of contempory architecture and public realm.’
