Factory-built homes - Leeds got there first

  • Comment

A report in the AJ (26.7.01) describes a housing scheme in York as 'the first factory-built low-cost housing project outside of London'.

Levitt Bernstein's CASPAR housing for the Joseph Rowntree Housing Association in Leeds used a factory-built timber frame system and has been complete for almost a year.

The AJ should have been aware of it - it was on the cover of the 3.8.00 issue. A second project for East Thames Housing Association in Harlow was recently completed by our practice using the same system.
