[SMALL PROJECTS 2011 - BEST OF THE REST] Remodelling and extension of an Edwardian terrace house

The house sits within a conservation area in Hammersmith, London. The two storey house was in a decrepit state, the client asked that the remodelling be contemporary, functional and allow for a perception of the domestic space continuing into the garden.

The design is based around a 30° twist in the plan that gives both physical and perceptove overlapping of the interior and exterior spaces that improves natural daylighting. The new extension is defined from the original strcuture by the use of materials. Glass panels and a faceted roof are used on the extension. The interior flooring material is drawn into the garden contrasting with the worn timber and green garden walls to create a relaxing garden space.
