Richard MacCormac's splendid Wellcome Wing at the Science Museum was treated to a visit by the Queen last week. She showed great interest, not unnaturally for a hereditary monarch and horse-breeder, in the displays about inherited characteristics. One of the features is a scanning machine which 'reads' your face and produces a wealth of information about you. Would Her Majesty try it out? There was just one drawback, which made it impossible: for the scanning to take place, you have to remove your hat.
