The final decision over the location of the new national football stadium will be made by the FA and not the government, it has emerged.
Government adviser Patrick Carter handed over his long-awaited report at the end of last month but ministers have chosen to simply make a recommendation and leave the final decision to officials at the FA. 'Basically the government is here to give the FA advice, ' said a spokesman for Number 10. Ministers will meet with the FA 'in the next two or three weeks', he said.
Meanwhile, Wimbledon FC has confirmed that it may take legal action against the Football League for preventing it from relocating to Milton Keynes in 2005 (AJ 30.8.01).
