Exhibition to showcase London 2012 architects

  • Comment

The Building Centre is to host an exhibition celebrating UK architects’ role in the London 2012 Olympic Games

The high-profile show comes six months after DCMS struck a deal with the International Olympic Committee to overturn controversial rules forbidding practices from promoting their connection to the 2012 Games.

The We Made 2012 exhibition focuses on Olympic venues, landscape and legacy showcasing the contribution of companies from across the construction industry.

Building Centre director Andrew Scoones said: ‘We Made 2012 is the first exhibition of its kind, offering recognition to all; from the architects who were widely known to have designed venues, to the unsung heroes who ensured the venues, facilities and landscapes were a testament to British design and construction.

‘We hope it increases understanding of design, innovation and construction, as well as ignite personal memories of an outstanding event.’

Hosted inside the Building Centre in London’s West End, We Made 2012 will feature film, photography, architectural models and sketches.

Components and materials will also be available to view close up, such as part of the Hopkins-designed Velodrome’s cable-net roof.

The exhibition comes shortly before the Queen Elizabeth II Park reopens to the public on 27 July – exactly one year on from the Games’ Opening Ceremony.
