in brief

Levitt Bernstein Associates has redesigned and refurbished Manchester's Royal Exchange theatre, which it first designed 20 years ago. The lottery-funded project, made more urgent by damage from the 1996 ira bomb, includes the addition of a 120-seat studio theatre, redesigned shops, restaurants, and backstage facilities, a new entrance, and upgrading of the existing theatre. The first performance will be on 30 November.
