Everton's not as bad as all that

Many thanks for profiling our collegiate scheme (News in Pictures, aj 8.10. 98) in Everton, Liverpool.

Your description of the adjacent Everton area - 'the stretches of wasteland and neglected housing' - is a little unfair. Although the area has many deep-rooted problems it is also an area with a vibrant determined community which is going through a radical transformation. While some grot-spots do exist major areas have been improved and the local community and public agencies are pulling together to continue the revitalisation of their area.

The work of Liverpool City Council, the North Liverpool Partnership and the Housing Action Trust is having a real impact and hopefully they will make major inroads into the problem of unemployment which affects this community. All of us at Urban Splash are very proud to be part of this broader regeneration.

BILL MAYNARD
