Some of contemporary architecture's biggest hitters are included in the line up of a two-part exhibition being staged by First Site at the Minories in Colchester. Part 1 (until 17 October) sees work by Zumthor, Grimshaw, Rossi, Gehry and Fretton; part 2 (21 Oct-19 Nov) includes Caruso St John, Libeskind, Holl, Mendini and Fletcher Priest. The connecting thread? - a search for 'art galleries in regional towns not unlike Colchester . . . contemporary buildings can raise the profile of regional towns as effectively as they can for capital cities'. Quite so. 'We're astonished and delighted,' says Keith Priest of the inclusion of his practice's Artezium arts centre in Luton, 'to be shown alongside Mendini, Rossi, Grimshaw and Gehry'. And at the thought that Luton might not just be like Colchester, but Bilbao!
