English Partnerships has appointed a national design panel to look at applications for funding through its investment fund.

The panel of six will look at schemes seeking support or gap funding to ensure that they measure up to the design principles set out by ep in its 'Time for Design 2' document.

The document's author and former architecture chief at the Arts Council Rory Coonan is joined on the new panel by John Lyall from John Lyall Associates, Derek Latham from Latham Architects, Bill Jack, the former chairman of bdp, Daryl Fowler of Broadway Malyan and Jon Rowlands, formerly of Llewelyn Davies.

'The object is to help applicants do better,' said Coonan, 'not act as a police force.'

Foggo Associates has won planning permission for this 20,000m2 office building at 280 Bishopsgate in the City of London. Work is expected to start in October.
