English Heritage has launched new guidelines geared towards 'respecting, repairing and enhancing' London's listed Peabody Estates - but with a view to other social housing estates across the country following suit. The guide was launched last week at Peabody Square, a scheme that EH London region director Philip Davies described as being 'a notable surviving example of Victorian social housing which is much loved by its residents'. The guidelines were drawn up in response to the estate's 1996 Grade II listing. The free 40-page booklet, The Peabody Estates: Conservation Guidelines is available from EH on 01536 533 500.
