Edward Cullinan Architects has designed a £30 million mathematical science research centre surrounded by a necklace of eight pavilions for Cambridge University. The 18,000m2 scheme will include a library and each pavilion will comprise research offices and common rooms. One will be used by Professor Stephen Hawkins. Part of the roofing will be tortoise-shell shaped and covered with grass. John Laing Construction will start building later this month for a 2000 finish.
