Education and skills no guarantee of full-time job

I would like to address the letter from Leslie Baker, 'An architect's life doesn't begin at 40' (aj 2/9.12.99).

Since 1994, I have completed a higher national diploma in building, a correspondence course in quantity surveying, together with various short courses in design and Microstation; yet I still haven't found full-time employment.

I'm 33, and having spent five years studying the design and science of building, aswell as accumulating student loans as long as your arm, you can't help but think 'has it all been worth it?'

Andrew Roberts,

Holywell, Flintshire
