Welcome to the first supplement from Hanson Brick showing the range of developments and activities we are currently involved in.

Many of you will know that Hanson is an international building materials company of 30,000 people with operations in 20 countries across three continents. The group's main activities include the production of crushed rock, sand, gravel, asphalt, ready-to-use mortar, premix concrete, recycled aggregates, bricks, clay pavers and a range of concrete blocks and pre-cast drainage products.

Through the amalgamation of UK brick businesses London and Butterley, and the continental brickmakers Desimpel and Boral, Hanson Bricks Europe has the capacity to produce about two billion bricks a year. In the UK, we operate from 14 factories and in continental Europe, Hanson has 24 production sites including a new state-of-the-art plant in Poland.

We are not complacent though, and we continue to focus our activities on the needs of the building designer. Hanson Brick is aware that the commercial and industrial sectors in which architects and designers are involved can choose from a number of construction materials. Clay has also evolved in recent years and architects can specify a traditional product in modern guises using our modular sizes to enhance today's construction techniques and glazed products which closely resemble tiles and other sophisticated cladding materials. We are also working on a number of innovative walling systems which we intend to bring to the market over the coming months.

Forever at the forefront of development, Hanson Brick's technical and design services team works closely to satisfy the special requirements of architects. The introduction of a dedicated specification team provides further focused support to assist you with any project from conception to completion.

We will continue to bring you innovative products and techniques and continue to expand the choice in our product portfolio. We also welcome your comments and feedback on our services, and the products we supply, which I hope will enable us all to go forward in this exciting period. I will be pleased to hear from you.
