Next month sees the completion of phase 2 of Mile End Park, which showcases sustainable technologies designed by Tibbalds TM2.
The 11 x 55m concrete Ecology Centre is built into the contours of the park's new undulating landscape and is covered by soil and turf. Heat stored over the summer months is used to warm the building during the winter. Ventilation is passive and the shallow plan ensures that no part of the building is far from natural light. A new art pavilion uses the same technologies and will used to house temporary exhibitions. It looks over an art park where 12 new sculptures will be unveiled and on view from 22 June to 30 September.
