Dyckhoff to present new Channel 4 architecture series

A new television series looking at how buildings affect our lives will be fronted by architecture critic Tom Dyckhoff, Channel 4 has announced

Three 60-minute episodes have been commissioned under the working title The Secrets Of Buildings.

Dyckhoff - a Times contributor who has also appeared on BBC2’s The Culture Show as an architecture expert - will investigate how the constructed space affects humans at home, work and play.

The Secrets Of Buildings will feature interviews with architect Norman Foster and other industry figures such as Alex de Rijke.

Dyckhoff has vowed to challenge their assumptions and argue that architecture should be less about ego, art and economics.

He will also explore the emerging science of space and tackle the theory of environmental determinism - the idea that the physical environment, rather than social conditions, determines culture.
