Dunster unveils Shanghai ZEDpavilion

[FIRST LOOK] Bill Dunster, principle at ZEDfactory, has unveiled his competition-winning ZEDpavilion at the Shanghai Expo, China

The practice won an international competition to design the pavilion, which is within the urban best practice area of the expo. The structure displays information about urban sustainability and ZEDfactory’s work.

The building has ‘super-insulation’ with high levels of thermal mass, an airtight construction and passive solar orientation. A photovoltaic solar panel provides electricity.

The practice has opened a ‘satellite’ office in Shanghai, providing sustainability advice to China’s construction industry.

ZEDfactory pioneered its ‘Zero Energy Development’ concept with the 2002 construction of BedZED at Mitcham, south London.

The Shanghai Expo 2010 is expected to attract 70 million visitors over the next 6 months.
