[First look] dRMM has submitted a planning application for 235 new homes in Elephant and Castle, south London
The 1.1 hectare Rodney Roadscheme is phase one of developer Lend Lease’s £1.5 billion regeneration programme for the area including the neighbouring Heygate Estate.
Designed to achieve level four of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the project features a tree-lined pedestrian street and publicly accessible landscaped habitats.
An outline application for the wider, 8.8 hectare regeneration was submitted in April.
Lend Lease project director for Elephant & Castle, Rob Deck said: ‘At the forefront of the design of all our homes is the desire to create a healthy and sustainable environment.
‘We have a 15 year development plan for the Elephant & Castle and we’re committed to creating a healthy and thriving urban quarter that enriches and integrates with the surrounding well-established neighbourhood.
‘Phase One will set the benchmark for quality homes and ecological improvement for the wider Heygate masterplan, and our final plans show how we’ve worked with the community to design a development that achieves these ambitions.’
Councillor Peter John, leader of Southwark Council, said: ‘I welcome the next steps in the drive to creating a better living environment for residents, this next part of the process will edge us closer to seeing the vision for this hugely important regeneration site come to fruition.’
The scheme will feature a minimum 25 per cent affordable housing.
