DRDH scoops major Norway job

  • Comment

Up-and-coming London firm DRDH Architects has won the international contest to design a 5,500m2 city library and 7,350m2 three-auditorium music hall in Bodø, Norway

Practice co-founder David Howarth said: ‘It is a ridiculously tight site – almost impossibly so – but we have ticked all the boxes and managed to get three auditoria on it.’

Following the victory, the practice is looking to expand and is even hoping to set up an office in Oslo. Howarth added: ‘Because of recessionary issues we were considering having to become slightly smaller in size [as a practice]. But being dropped from a stalled housing project last year was the best thing that has happened to us. We had time to put the work in on this competition entry and probably knew the city better than anyone.’

The £67 million building is due to be completed in 2013.
