Down the hatch

  • Comment

Tony Monk 's lecture on Paul Rudolph last week,in connection with his book launched at the American Embassy, was instructive - it revealed where Norman Foster ,who studied with Rudolph at Yale, learned his formidable graphic skills.

Norman, who was in attendance, revealed in the discussion that he used to cross-hatch the great man's drawings - for $2 an hour..

The best line of the evening was Bob Stern's quip, quoted by Charles Jencks:'

Michael Graves is the Paul Rudolph of Post Modernism'.
