Incidentally, one nostalgic observer of the Millennium Wheel project is the self-same Alex Reid. Re-reading the October 1969 issue of Architectural Design, I notice a scheme by the youthful Reid, comprising a 125m diameter Big Wheel for a site at the Blackhorse Road station on the Victoria line. Prosaically billed as a 'giant park-and-ride facility', the structure was to serve as a funfair attraction in the evenings and at weekends, but used as a carpark on weekdays. Now there's an idea for Portland Place.
