DORMA Closers help open the door to an International Education

  • Comment

DORMA has supplied in excess of 260 door closers and floor springs for installation in a new building project at the International School in Aberdeen.

This project is the latest phase in a scheme to continually expand and improve the schools facilities. The International School in Aberdeen have invested in the regeneration of this site, which has included; a state of the art sports centre, converting the existing gymnasium into a 350-seat auditorium and adding a suite of specialist performing-arts studios and classrooms.

The project, designed by leading Scottish architects Halliday Fraser Munro, employs 207 of DORMA’s TS92 door closers, 4 TS92 EMF and 14 TS93 EMF electromagnetic door closers, 38 BTS 80 EMB electromagnetic floor springs.

A versatile and economical device designed for standard interior doors, the TS92 is one of DORMA’s best-selling products. Featuring DORMA’s unique heart-shaped cam design, this closer combines easy opening with a positive closing force. The TS92 is DORMA’s standard model for pull-side door leaf fixing or push-side transom fixing.

Due to the busy environment and high level of traffic in the schools corridors 4 additional TS92 closers were supplied with DORMA’s EMF electromagnetic slide channel assembly. This enables the door to be held open securely at a pre-selected position without fall-back.

In the event of an alarm or a fault in the power supply, the hold open device is released and the door is closed by the closer. The hold-open device can be adjusted without tools and can be manually overridden.

The 14 TS93 closers were also fitted with EMF hold-open devices. This model is an advanced modular closer system capable of being configured for a wide variety of applications. Its features include a back-check to prevent violent opening (for example by gusts of wind) and a delayed closing action to prevent the door closing on the user. Both the TS92 and TS93 units are part of DORMA’s Contur design range.

DORMA’s BTS 80 EMB floor spring is designed especially for fire or smoke-doors weighing up to 300 kg. Fitted with an integral electro-hydraulic hold-open device, the BTS 80 EMB is adjustable and has a hydraulically controlled closing speed, adjustable latching action and backcheck.

All of the DORMA products used at the school were supplied and fitted by the Aberdeen branch of ironmongery specialist Wolseley. Stephen Campbell, Contacts Manager, comments, “We have used DORMA products on several of our projects now because we can guarantee the quality of the products they provide.  With a project, such as this one, where we installed a high number of door closers in a demanding environment DORMA were able to offer us the assurance we needed for the product.”
