The client behind NORD’s 2013 Doolan Prize winner, Wasps Studios is on the hunt for an architect to complete the regeneration of Glasgow’s iconic Briggait complex
The winning team will create a new centre for dance, circus, theatre and performance art within the Grade A-listed former fish market.
Nicoll Russell Studios completed a £6.5 million overhaul of the 1873 building in Glasgow’s Merchant Quarter five years ago.
The 5,500m² project created 69 new workspaces for artists and cultural organisations alongside a new public courtyard and five shop fronts.
The second phase will occupy a 1,115m² derelict space within the building which was not included in Nicoll Russell’s initial regeneration.
The £4.55 million scheme is expected to include offices, galleries, shops, purpose built studios and space for Scotland’s first flying trapeze.
The former fish market first closed in 1976 before being transformed into a temporary shopping mall ten years later. The building was unused for twenty years before Wasps Studios acquired it in 2001.
NORD’s £3.5 million WASPS South Block scheme – for the same client – was the surprise winner of the 2013 RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award.
The contract for Wasps’ latest project covers architectural services, building services engineering, structural and civil engineering.
Other technical services such as acoustic design, fire engineering, conservation architecture and sustainability advice may also be required. A quantity surveyor will be procured separately.
The deadline for requests to participate is 2 February.
