Don't demolish - put the school to another use

LETTERS

Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council has received a planning application for the demolition of most of the Grade II*-listed former Durnford Street School, Middleton (1908-10), designed by Edgar Wood and JHSellars.

Personally, I hope that the spacious school building can be retained, and used to house Middleton Library (see 'Macintoshstyle school threatened by neglect', AJ 26.4.01, page 21).
