Home-owners should have an easier time dealing with builders following the publication of a new contract by the Joint Contracts Tribunal (jct) aimed specifically at the domestic market. Intended for use on projects where customers deal directly with builders without the benefit of a professional adviser, the new contract, said Roy Swanston, chairman of JCT, 'provides an invaluable safeguard both for the customer embarking on building work and for the builder undertaking the project.' The contract has been awarded a 'crystal mark' by the Plain English Campaign.
